The Pakistan hockey team entered the #HWL2017 quarterfinals at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Tuesday. They will now face off against Argentina in the quarterfinals of Hockey World League League semi-final tournament tomorrow (Thursday).

Scotland’s Loss, Pakistan‘s  Gain

The fifth day of action at the Men’s Hero Hockey World League Semi-Final in London was a crucial one for Pakistan and Scotland, who both recorded important wins to boost their chances of reaching the event quarter-finals.

Bottom to the Top:

On Day 3, Pakistan, were at the bottom of the pool after losing the first three matches they have played.

On day 5, Scotland’s Blue Sticks took a 13th minute lead thanks to Wei Adams, enhancing his team’s own ambitions of reaching the quarter-finals. However, goals from Muhammad Irfan Jr, Muhammad Arslan Qadir and Muhammad Aleem Bilal turned the match around and give Pakistan their first points of the tournament with a 3-1 triumph.

On day 6, Canada and Scotland drew 1-1 at the qualifiers, which helped Pakistan made it to the quarterfinals of the event.

Pakistans Ticket to the World Cup

If Pakistan fails to qualify for the world cup it will have to win Asian Hockey Champions Trophy, which will be held in India.


Semi-Finals
The top five teams from this tournament automatically qualify for the World Cup, so each of the winning quarter finalists will book their place in the tournament in India in 2018.

The semi finals will be as follows:

Argentina/Pakistan vs India/Malaysia
Netherlands/China vs England/Canada

The Pakistani Squad

Pakistans Team is led by ace striker Abdul Haseeb Khan, while Umar Bhutta has been selected as vice-captain.  Other players include goalkeepers, Amjad Ali and Mazhar Abbas, defenders/halfbacks Nawaz Ashfaq, Aleem Bilal, Abubakr Mahmood, Mohammad Rizwan Jr, Atif Mushtaq, Tasawwar Abbas and Ammad Shakeel Butt.  Team’s forwards include Mohammad Irfan Jr, Arslan Qadir, Ali Shan, Mohammad Dilber, Ejaz Ahmed, Abdul Haseem Khan, Azfar Yaqoob and Umair Sarfraz.
