Gonzalo Peillat was the top scorer at the 2014 World Cup, and a major reason for Argentina’s climb up the world rankings. At the 2014 Hockey World Cup in The Hague he was top goal scorer with 10 goals from a total of 14 shots, all of them perfectly struck drag flick penalty corners.

It is little wonder that players and fans have recognized the prowess of Gonzalo Peillat and one could see why as the Hockey World League Semi-Final 2017 competition got underway at the London’s Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Center on Thursday.

International colleague,Lucas Rey, commented: “When you have a player like Gonzalo in the team, you just have to try to win the penalty corners, he will usually score.”

Day One: Argentina edged out South Korea 2-1. Gonzalo Peillat converted a penalty corner in 26th minute to give Argentina lead. South Korea leveled through a beautiful field goal from Lee Namyong in the 46th minute. But Gonzalo again converted a penalty corner in 53rd minute to earn victory for his side.

Day Two: Peillat once again thrashed Asian rivals Malaysia 5-2. scoring four goals with successful penalty corner executions in the fourth, 11th, 40th and 47th minutes. Facundo Callioni scored Argentina’s fifth in the 49th minute.
